Find out the best basketball shoes for flat feet

Orthofeet Sorrento Orthopedic Outdoor Shoes

Orthofeet has included plenty of orthopedic features in these outdoor shoes. In fact, this applies not only to the insole, midsole, and outsole of the shoe but also to the upper.

In this shoe, the insole, midsole, and outsole comprise the Ortho-Cushion System engineered to enhance stability and reduce stress on the feet.

The upper layer of the system comprises of the orthotic insole that is designed to provide support to flat feet. Aside from that, it softens your steps, reduces pressure on the bottom of the feet, and helps alleviate calluses and corns. It is also made from anti-microbial and moisture-wicking fabric to ensure healthier wear.

Beneath the insoles are the well-cushioned and perforated EVA midsole and outsole. The heel area of the outsole, in particular, contains air pockets designed to reduce stress on the joints and further improve the comfort of wearing.

The upper of the shoe is soft, well-padded, and seamless to complement the support delivered from beneath the foot. A cherry on top is the rather tall collar that supports the ankle yet doesn’t restrict movement too much.

These shoes are designed for outdoor use, so they are more suitable for outdoor basketball. And while Orthofeet Sorrento is not true basketball shoes, they are your only choice if your condition prevents you from wearing a regular basketball shoe.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • The outsole is durable enough for outdoor use.
  • Designed to alleviate stress on joints.
  • Good support in the ankle area.
  • May not be too suitable for indoor use.

Orthofeet Monterey Bay Athletic Shoes

From inside, Monterey Bay is basically identical to the Sorrento shoes we’ve just reviewed. They’ve got the exact same Ortho-Cushion System with its anti-microbial insole, perforated EVA midsole, and a rubber outsole with softening air pockets. In terms of comfort, the two Orthofeet shoes should be very similar.

One thing that differs in these shoes is the design. This first applies to the appearance of the shoes. Monterey Bay looks a little sleeker and less bulky than the Sorrento shoes. They may also be lighter, which is going to positively impact your performance.

The top of this shoe seems to be slightly shorter as well. On one hand, Monterey Bay shoes are going to have slightly less ankle support. On the other, they are going to provide more freedom for the ankle, which again is going to be an advantage for you.

The most remarkable feature of these shoes is their tie-less lacing system. Monterey Bay shoes do have laces, but they are attached to the side via removable Velcro tabs that allow you to avoid tying the laces every time. This system is available on both sides of the shoe, so you’ll be able to use it even if you have mobility restrictions.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Sleeker design than in the Sorrento shoes.
  • The ankle area has good mobility.
  • The tie-less laces allow you to avoid tying laces.
  • Excellent comfort for various foot conditions.
  • 2 color options.
  • We found no cons

Orthofeet Lava Athletic Shoes

Lava athletic shoes again employ Orthofeet’s Ortho-Cushion System, as the previous two shoes did. Overall, these shoes are more similar to Monterey Bay than to Sorrento shoes, but there is one key feature that makes them different.

The upper in these shoes have the same seamless and cushioned build. However, a thing that it also has is stretchiness. Thanks to its stretchy nature, the Lava shoes should provide comfier and tighter fit, at the same time increasing support.

The height in the top of this shoe is closer to Sorrento’s height rather than to Monterey Bay’s, so you should expect good ankle support from them, with the tradeoff of possibly limited mobility.

The design in the Lava shoes overall is as sleek and light as in the Monterey Bay shoes, so if you do care about how your shoes look, this may be a great option for you.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Delivers tight fit thanks to the stretchy upper.
  • Sleek and light design.
  • Provides great support for the feet.
  • We found no cons

Orthofeet Sprint Sneakers

The design in the Sprint sneakers strongly resembles the Monterey Bay shoes. And overall, these two Orthofeet shoe models are very similar to each other. But the Sprint shoes have one additional feature that may interest you.

Remember the tie-less lace system that the Monterey Bay had? The Sprint shoes also have it, but with a little bonus. Orthofeet equipped them with a heel strap to allow for more opportunities for fit adjustment. And with this feature, balancing out comfort and support should be very easy.

Other than that, the Sprint and Monterey Bay shoes are pretty much identical. Well, if you don’t take into account the slightly different texture of the upper. If you find that you do need the comfort that the heel strap provides, this model is going to be a better choice.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Boast Orthofeet’s tie-less lacing system.
  • Sleek looks.
  • Has a heel strap for adjusting the support of the heel.
  • Offers plenty of support for the feet.
  • 2 color options.
  • We found no cons

Nike Men’s Court Borough Low Basketball Shoe

If your condition allows you to go for a regular basketball shoe, then maybe Nike Court Borough will interest you. This shoe doesn’t have all the extra cushioning stuff in its sole, but what it has is better performance for basketball.

These shoes are less bulky and more lightweight than the Orthofeet models, which should provide you with a great advantage on the basketball court. However, Court Borough shoes nonetheless have a good amount of padding in them, namely, in the collar area.

Speaking of the collar, it is rather low in this basketball shoe. Thanks to this, you will be able to enjoy more freedom of movement in the ankles. On the other hand, the low tops won’t provide your ankles with as much support, so if you have had ankle injuries in the past, this shoe may not be the best choice for you.

The outsole in this shoe is made from rubber, a material that provides great traction with the surface of the court. The rubber cup sole also provides some amount of support to help alleviate stress on the joints.

And the last thing that should be mentioned in this shoe is its mesh tongue, which should allow for great breathability and thus comfort in the shoe.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Offers great performance for basketball.
  • The low top allows for more mobility in the ankles.
  • Multiple color options.
  • Won’t be very supportive in the ankle area.

Nike Men’s Free RN Running Shoe

If you are looking for a more general-purpose shoe to use in basketball, Nike’s Free RN running shoe is a rather good option.

Now, a running shoe definitely won’t provide you with as great performance in basketball as a specialized basketball shoe would. Running shoes aren’t quite appropriate for all the lateral movement that takes place in basketball due to lack of traction and support.

However, if you aren’t going to push yourself to the limit, a running shoe like this one should suffice.

What this running shoe can do is provide your feet with a great amount of cushioning. Running shoes are designed to attenuate shock when running, so the Free RN shoes should provide you with plenty of softness under the feet.

The sole in this shoe is a rather remarkable one, by the way. Aside from cushioning the foot, it delivers a rather natural feel, contracting and expanding as you land and push off the ground.

These shoes also have Flywire cables in them that complement the laces. As you tighten the laces, you are getting an increased level of support from the Flywire cables. At the same time, there are no cables at the top lace to allow for free movement at the forefoot.

Lastly, these shoes have an open-knit stitch on the top of the foot for increased breathability. Sweating and heat thus shouldn’t be a problem with the Free RN shoe.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Very light and soft feel.
  • Provides good support for people with foot conditions.
  • A lot of colors available.
  • Won’t deliver as good performance as a specialized basketball shoe.
  • Not too much support in the ankle area.

Nike Men’s Free RN Sense

When you look at the Nike Free RN Sense shoes, their build seems to be very similar to that of the Free RN shoes we’ve just reviewed. They’ve got the same Flywire cable system, the same breathable upper design, and a similar feel. What should differ in the two shoes though is ankle support?

The top in the Free RN Sense shoes is a bit taller, which means that it is going to deliver increased support in the ankle area. At the same time, it is going to somewhat restrict the ankles’ mobility and thus your overall performance. But since these aren’t specialized basketball shoes, performance is less important in them compared to the increased ankle support.

These shoes also seem to run narrower than the Free RN shoes, so you may need to pick a size bigger unless you have narrow feet.

Other than that, the two Nike running shoes are pretty much identical, so your decision will probably be based on the amount of ankle support you need.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Offers pretty nice support and cushioning at the ankle.
  • Plenty of colors available.
  • Run slightly narrow. You may need to go up a size.

AND1 Men’s Attack Mid Basketball Shoe

AND1’s Attack basketball shoe has a design that is rather common in modern basketball shoes. Mid-height top, thickly cushioned outsole, breathable upper – this is how a generic basketball shoe looks like nowadays.

Well, there is a reason for this – such a design has proven itself to be excellent for basketball due to its jumpiness and foot support.

Overall, if your medical condition is mild and if you can afford to pursue results in basketball – whether professional or amateur – then the Attack shoe is a good option.

As for the main benefits of these shoes, we’ve basically mentioned them above. First off, they have a mid-height top, which offers a good balance between ankle mobility and support.

The Attack shoes also have a thick & cushioned outsole that is designed for either indoor or outdoor surfaces. This outsole is going to provide you with softness beneath the feet, absorbing shocks and allowing you to jump easier.

The Attack basketball shoe also has a micromesh upper, which makes it rather lightweight and breathable.

Another thing the upper has is nylon eyelets attached to the footbed. They are similar in function to the Nike Flywire cable system – it’s pretty easy to tie these shoes tight with these eyelets.

Lastly, these shoes look pretty cool. On top of that, AND1 offers 4 color options for them, so you should be able to find a pair that is to your taste.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Good amount of ankle support.
  • Plenty of cushioning and traction.
  • 4 color options.
  • We found no cons

Nike Men’s Zoom REV TB Basketball Shoe

Nike’s Zoom REV TB shoes are very similar in design to the AND1 Attack shoes we’ve just reviewed. However, there are some minor differences that may make this model more attractive to you.

These shoes are again more centered around performance, with the thick outsoles delivering great cushioning and jumpiness. In terms of traction though, the Zoom REV TB shoes may be slightly better. The outsole texture wraps around the side of the shoe, increasing its lateral traction. The Attack shoe didn’t have such a prominent side texture.

The fit in these shoes also seems to be overall tighter and snugger. On one hand, this is going to provide you with better foot support overall. On the other hand, people with wider feet may need to choose a size bigger.

It also seems that these shoes don’t have any kind of lace loop or wire system in them, which may slightly compromise their comfort. But given that they already run narrow, the loops aren’t really that necessary here.

Other than that, the Attack and Zoom REV TB shoes are similar to each other, which applies to the top height, the mesh design, and the overall performance orientation of this shoe.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Great basketball performance.
  • Thickly cushioned outsole.
  • Supportive on the ankles.
  • Plenty of color options.
  • Tend to run narrow.

Adidas Men’s Cf Lite Racer Running Shoe

Let’s step back from specialized basketball shoes. As we’ve established above, they aren’t suitable if you are pursuing top performance in basketball. But for general use, a shoe like Adidas Cf Lite Racer is going to suffice.

What interests us today is comfort, and the Cf Lite Racer running shoe does have good comfort to boast.

The most remarkable feature in this shoe is its memory foam sock liner. It not only keeps the insole of the shoe away from moisture but also provides great comfort by adapting to the shape of your foot. So this shoe definitely delivers in terms of comfort.

As a running shoe, the Cf Lite Racer has plenty of cushioning as well. Maybe not as much in a top-grade basketball shoe, but definitely enough to ensure protection from impacts with the court.

The top in this shoe is also low-ish, which means that it won’t be delivering as much ankle support as higher-top shoes. On the other hand, your ankle will feel freer in it. A thing that also will add to the comfort of this shoe is its breathable upper.

Overall, if you are looking for a comfy general-purpose shoe, this may be an excellent pick for you.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Memory foam sock liner.
  • Has a good amount of cushioning.
  • Offers good mobility at the ankle.
  • Several color options available.
  • Not too great when it comes to basketball performance.
  • May lack ankle support for you.

Nike Men’s Air Max 270 Running Shoes

Nike Air Max 270 shoes are the flashiest shoes on our list of best basketball shoes for flat feet. And because they look so cool, it is a pity that they aren’t specialized basketball shoes. We think a lot of basketball players would like to get these shoes for themselves due to their design.

The Air Max 270 shoe has a strong basketball vibe in it, mainly due to the thick outsole that resembles the outsoles you see in basketball shoes. This outsole has plenty of cushioning in it, especially in the heel area. But since it doesn’t wrap around the sides, it won’t provide too much support for lateral movements.

This is the main reason why these shoes aren’t for people who pursue performance in basketball. But people with flat feet or other foot conditions will likely appreciate the amount of comfort and cushioning they deliver.

The Air Max 270 shoe is also made snug and supportive, especially in the ankle area. On the other hand, it will be obviously limiting your ankle mobility and thus performance. And yeah, it also seems to run narrow, so you may need to go one size bigger.

Overall, if you are looking for a comfy shoe that is also eye-catching, maybe Air Max 270 is the right option for you.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Very cool look.
  • Snug and pretty supportive.
  • Has a lot of cushioning in the outsole.
  • Multiple color options.
  • A slightly narrow fit.
  • Won’t be as good as specialized basketball shoes.

Asics Gel-Vanisher Men’s Running Shoe

Asics Gel-Vanisher is a more down-to-earth shoe when compared to something like Air Max 270. This shoe is less flashy and not as soft, but it still has good enough support in it.

At the base of this shoe is the Asics GEL cushioning system that is designed to attenuate shocks and also improve bounce-back characteristics. This shoe is good for running and should also be good for basketball, though we think that Asics should have put a little more cushioning into it.

In terms of ankle support, this shoe seems to be somewhere in between. It has a not too tall top, which should allow the shoe to deliver a good balance of support and mobility.

A thing that you may also like in this shoe is that it doesn’t have too much mesh in it. Mesh does make shoes lighter and more breathable, but it does so at the cost of integrity. Thus, the Gel-Vanisher shoe is a rather strong and supportive one.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Has good bounciness to it.
  • Strong design.
  • Has a lot of color variants.
  • A bit hard on the feet.

LI-NING Sonic Series CJ McCollum Basketball Shoes

If you are looking for ankle support, then the CJ McCollum basketball shoes are probably going to be the best ones for you.

The first thing that catches the eye in these shoes is their tall top. At the expense of mobility, such a tall top is going to provide your ankles with support unmatched by anything else on our list. The TPU stabilizer in the heel area additionally contributes to the shoe’s ankle support.

The outsole in this shoe is also remarkable. It’s thick and heavily cushioned, so it is going to deliver an excellent amount of bounciness and shock absorption. However, a tradeoff of the thick cushioning is that it may make you feel disconnected from the ground.

Aside from support, the outsoles are made grippy, which should help you with achieving peak performance on the court. And all in all, for a not so steep price, the LI-NING basketball shoe delivers plenty of support and comfort paired with performance.

*****PROS ***CONS
  • Excellent amount of ankle support.
  • Thick and supportive outsole.
  • Multiple color options.
  • The height of the outsole may make you feel disconnected from the ground.
  • Will limit ankle mobility.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are plenty of options of basketball shoes for players with flat feet. But, unfortunately, it isn’t too easy to choose a proper shoe since your condition is going to put forward a very specific set of requirements.

Before spending money on a shoe for basketball, make sure to understand what you actually need down to little specifics like lace tying or whatnot. And if you know what you want, you should be able to find the right model prett
